Buhari Expresses Condolences for Former INEC Chairman’s Mother

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has extended his condolences following the death of Hauwa Jega, mother of Prof. Attahiru Jega, the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Hajiya Jega passed away on Friday night in Abuja at the age of 86 after a brief illness.

Her funeral prayer took place at the National Mosque in Abuja on Saturday afternoon, with her burial following Islamic rites at Gudu Cemetery. Buhari’s sentiments reflect a broader expression of sympathy and respect from various quarters during this period of mourning.

The National Peace Committee (NPC) has revealed that it encountered significant pressure during the 2023 Presidential Election. According to a report presented by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, the NPC received numerous calls and petitions urging them to halt the collation of election results or cancel the election entirely due to alleged violations.
