Okechukwu: ADA’s Emergence Will Boost Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid
Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that the emergence of a new political movement, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), will only reinforce President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term in office come 2027.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday, Okechukwu described the proposed registration of the ADA by the National Opposition Coalition as a welcome development, noting that he supports a vibrant multiparty system where all political voices are represented.
He expressed optimism that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would approve the ADA’s registration, citing the precedent set during APC’s own registration while in opposition.
According to Okechukwu, “I am an advocate of multiparty democracy. ADA’s registration is a democratic step forward. Ironically, their formation may end up benefiting Tinubu’s re-election, not hurting it.”
He dismissed the assumption by ADA promoters that the northern electorate would automatically support a northern candidate, describing such thinking as simplistic and misleading.
“The idea that the northern electorate can be herded like cattle to the polls is false. The North is politically astute and values results,” he said, adding that Tinubu’s infrastructure projects and push for local government autonomy prove he remains committed to nationwide development.
Okechukwu also tackled the argument that power rotation should return to the North by 2027, asserting that the North has historically held power longer than the South since Nigeria’s independence. He pointed to this as the original logic behind Nigeria’s zoning arrangement instituted in 1999.
In conclusion, the APC stalwart maintained that the formation of ADA does not threaten the ruling party, and may instead reenergize the political process to Tinubu’s advantage.
