Ondo APC Female Aspirant Urges Party To Prioritize Competency Over Zoning In Gubernatorial Primaries
Funmi Waheed-Adekojo, a female governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has raised concerns about the party’s adherence to unwritten zoning arrangements ahead of the gubernatorial primaries…….READ ALSO APC Presidential Primary: Names Of Aspirants Who Stepped Down For Tinubu (Full list)
In a statement to the press in Akure, the state capital, Waheed-Adekojo cautioned against placing undue emphasis on zoning, suggesting that it could be counterproductive for the party. She emphasized the importance of prioritizing competency in selecting candidates for the governorship polls.
Waheed-Adekojo, who is the sole aspirant from the northern senatorial district out of a total of 16 aspirants, argued that past adherence to zoning had sometimes deprived the state of capable leaders who could effectively drive progress and development.
She urged party members to critically assess all aspirants based on their competence rather than their senatorial district, emphasizing that every zone in the state had completed its cycle of zoning.
The aspirant called for a shift away from selfish political tendencies and urged politicians to focus on providing an enabling environment for future generations. Her remarks underscore a broader conversation within the party about the balance between zoning considerations and the need for capable leadership.
