Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and some police officers were spotted at the polling unit of a former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole.
Ireporteronline understands that Oshiomhole is supporting the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpebholo.
At the time of filing this report, Oshiomhole has arrived at his polling unit to vote for his preferred governorship candidate.
Voting activities for the governorship election in Edo State have commenced, as Edo people decide who becomes the next governor of the state.
In a related development, operatives of EFCC have apprehended several individuals suspected of engaging in vote-buying during the ongoing Edo State governorship election.
The arrests occurred around 10:00 a.m. in the Egor Local Government Area, where EFCC officials swooped in on a group of suspects, taking away three individuals – two males and one female – for questioning.
However, the arrests sparked a backlash from local residents, some of whom protested the actions of the EFCC. Many claimed that the suspects were being unjustly targeted and victimized, raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.
According to Channels, witnesses reported that the presence of EFCC operatives in the area intensified as election day unfolded, with the agency maintaining a focus on curbing electoral malpractices, including vote-buying.
The commission has been on high alert, following a directive to ensure a free and fair electoral process.
