Osimhen, at just 25 years old, has already made remarkable progress in his international career, recently tying Segun Odegbami’s record of 23 goals for Nigeria. However, he still trails Yekini’s iconic record of 37 goals, which has stood for nearly three decades.

In a touching interview shared on social media, Osimhen made it clear that surpassing Yekini’s record would not diminish his legacy. “I just want to do my job, score goals, and win games. If I surpass the record, I surpass it, but Rashidi Yekini remains the greatest striker in Super Eagles history,” Osimhen stated.

Yekini’s contributions to Nigerian football include scoring the country’s first-ever World Cup goal and winning back-to-back AFCON top scorer titles in 1992 and 1994, cementing his status as a football legend.
