Outrage As Police Drop ₦1.3 Billion Fraud Charges Against Top Politician’s Son

According to Ireporteronline reports, the charges were dropped via a Notice of Withdrawal submitted to the Federal High Court in Lagos under Section 108(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015. The document, signed by Chief Superintendent of Police Justin Enang and dated February 4, 2025, did not specify reasons for the withdrawal.

The Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigeria Police had initially accused the defendants of conspiring to fraudulently obtain over ₦1.35 billion from Access Bank Plc (formerly Diamond Bank) under false pretenses, claiming to import cars from Dubai. They were also charged with money laundering and misrepresentation.

Though scheduled for arraignment on January 26, 2025, the defendants failed to appear in court, leading to a postponed hearing date of February 27, 2025. Following the withdrawal of charges, sources indicate that the case may be struck out in court today.
