Outrage In FCT: Reps Urge Crackdown On Unregistered Taxis Amid ‘One Chance’ Killings
Abuja on Tuesday, the House of Representatives expressed serious concern over the growing incidents of “one chance” crimes in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
During its plenary session in Abuja, the House directed relevant committees to engage with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the FCT Police Commissioner, and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to address the alarming rise in these criminal activities.
This resolution was driven by a motion of urgent national importance, sponsored by Ismail Dabo, following the tragic murder of Miss Nimah Sulaiman by “one chance” operators on October 17.
Miss Sulaiman, a Legislative Aide to the motion’s sponsor, was kidnapped at gunpoint near Bannex Junction in Wuse 2 while heading home to Jahi District. Despite a full ransom payment, she was killed, and her body was discovered later that evening near Maitama/Minister’s Hill Bridge.
Dabo, representing Toro Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, lamented the growing insecurity in the nation’s capital, highlighting the surge in kidnappings, armed robberies, and the use of unregistered and unpainted taxis, which have become easy channels for criminals to operate.
The House also instructed its FCT Committee to investigate these taxis and provide a detailed report on the activities of kidnappers and armed robbers in the capital within three weeks.
