Oyedele Confirmed By Senate As Tinubu’s Minister

According to Ireporter Online, the Nigerian Senate has confirmed Taiwo Oyedele as a minister-designate under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The confirmation was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio after lawmakers approved the nominee through a voice vote at the Committee of the Whole.

Oyedele is set to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite as Minister of State for Finance. The Senate had screened Oyedele earlier in the week, with the process beginning after Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion to admit the nominee into the chamber. Oyedele was subsequently ushered in by Basheer Lado, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Senate Matters, arriving at 2:21 pm alongside several government officials, including Ondo State Commissioner for Justice Kayode Ajulo and former Minister of Defence Tokunbo Kayode.

President Tinubu nominated Oyedele to the Ministry of Finance, while Uzoka-Anite is expected to move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, marking her third portfolio in the administration. Until his appointment, Oyedele, a native of Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which overhauled Nigeria’s tax system.

An economist, accountant, and public policy expert, Oyedele holds an HND in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive education programs at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, joining in 2001 and rising to Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He is currently a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
