Pastor Allegedly Beats 13-Year-Old Girl To Death In Cross River Over ₦30,000
According to Ireporter Online, the Cross River State Police Command has arrested a pastor, Roman Samson, and a woman, Agnes Peter, in connection with the death of her 13-year-old daughter, Nancy Peter, who allegedly died after being subjected to corporal punishment over claims of a missing ₦30,000 in Obanleku Community, Boki Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly began on June 1, 2026, after Agnes Peter accused her daughter of taking the missing money from their home. She was said to have taken the teenager to the pastor for discipline and counselling. However, police sources disclosed that the situation escalated at the cleric’s residence, where the girl was allegedly subjected to severe flogging with a horsewhip and later became unconscious. She was reportedly rushed to a medical facility, where she was confirmed dead.
The grieving mother, however, denied instructing anyone to harm her daughter, insisting she only sought spiritual guidance and corrective intervention, adding that the missing money was later found in the girl’s clothing. She maintained that the pastor acted independently in disciplining the child and that she was not present when the beating occurred.
On his part, Pastor Samson, who leads the Goodness of Jesus Ministry, claimed he only intended to correct the teenager’s alleged repeated theft behaviour, stating that the girl had been brought to him several times in the past over similar accusations. He admitted to administering corporal punishment but insisted he did not intend to cause her death, explaining that he stopped when she appeared weak and immediately attempted to take her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Cross River State Police Command confirmed that both suspects are in custody as investigations continue, noting that the case has sparked outrage within the community as residents demand justice for the deceased minor. The Command further assured the public of its commitment to a thorough investigation and the maintenance of law and order across the state.
