Pastor Paul Oyewole, an Ondo-based cleric, has been charged with faking his own death in order to avoid repaying N3 million borrowed from a member of his church.

After sending a fake bank alert to his creditor, Boyede Emmanuel, Oyewole was accused of falsely publishing and posting his obituary on a social media platform.

Oyewole was charged with obtaining money fraudulently while promising to repay it within seven days.

Oyewole was accused of threatening the complainant over the phone with the intent to intimidate him and acting in a way that was likely to cause a breach of the peace by stripping naked in front of the complainant’s house.

He is said to have committed the crime between November 2021 and May 2022.

Oyewole, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Sergeant Akao Moremi, the Police Prosecutor, stated that he would call four witnesses to testify in the case.

Mrs Queen Arokoyo, the defendant’s lawyer, requested liberal bail terms.

Mrs Mosunmola Ikujuni, the presiding Magistrate, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1m with two credible sureties in the same sum.
