Peter Obi Won’t Match Atiku, Tinubu In Kano Votes — APC Stakeholder
According to Ireporter Online, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ismaeel Ahmed, has expressed doubts over the electoral strength of a potential joint presidential ticket involving Labour Party’s Peter Obi and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, particularly in Kano State.
Ahmed made the remarks during a television interview on TVC, where he stated that while Peter Obi enjoys widespread recognition in several parts of the country, his level of support in Kano remains relatively weak.
He noted that the success of any Obi–Kwankwaso alliance in the state would largely depend on Kwankwaso’s political influence and grassroots structure. Recalling the 2023 presidential election, Ahmed pointed out that Kwankwaso demonstrated significant electoral strength in Kano, reportedly securing over one million votes, which he described as evidence of his continued dominance among voters in the state.
However, he cautioned that political dynamics could shift in future elections, stressing that previous electoral outcomes may not necessarily be replicated.
Ahmed further argued that the structure of a joint ticket could significantly influence voter behaviour, suggesting that if Obi were to lead while Kwankwaso serves as a running mate, the combination might not generate the same level of appeal in Kano. He added that voters in the state may respond more strongly if Kwankwaso were the principal candidate.
He was quoted as saying that although Obi may have strong backing in other regions, his influence in Kano is limited, adding that even with Kwankwaso’s support, the duo may still struggle to outperform candidates like Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu.
