At a ceremony held at the Dangote Academy, Plant Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana, Azad Nawabuddin, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s renewable energy sector and empowering youth. He stated that these newly trained professionals are poised to make a transformative impact on the nation’s energy landscape.

Azad highlighted the deep passion Group President Aliko Dangote has for youth empowerment, particularly in alignment with the government’s job creation efforts. He also noted that this initiative would contribute to providing much-needed electricity to local communities and the country as a whole.

Represented by John Gwong, Head of the Production Department, Azad described the training as a “rare opportunity” and a “meal ticket” for the participants. He also underscored that the program is part of Dangote Cement’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.

The Head of Social Performance, Wakeel Olayiwola, represented by Olusegun Olojede, emphasized that the new solar energy entrepreneurs would play a crucial role in supporting the government’s mission to provide power to millions of Nigerians.

Ademola Adeyemi, General Manager of Community Affairs and Special Duties, explained that the initiative is a way of giving back to society. He revealed that of the 46 graduates, 27 were men, and 19 were women, with beneficiaries coming from Kogi State’s Obajana, Oyo, Iwaa, and Apata communities.

This training, conducted in partnership with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), was further lauded by Abdulrahman Wudilawa, the ITF Training Manager for Kogi State. He stressed the promising economic potential of solar technology, noting that Nigeria’s abundant sunlight makes it an ideal hub for solar energy solutions.

Wudilawa also pointed out the environmental benefits of solar energy, citing its role in reducing carbon footprints and combating climate change. The ITF provided the necessary training and certification to the graduates, ensuring they are equipped to thrive in the booming solar energy industry.

This initiative highlights Dangote Cement’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development and job creation in Nigeria.
