Unrelenting Force: Nigerian Army Achieves Major Milestones Against Terrorism

At a biweekly update in Abuja, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, highlighted the scale of the achievements:

• Weapons Recovered: 8,216 arms, including 4,053 AK-47 rifles and 1,123 locally fabricated guns.
• Ammunition Seized: Over 211,459 rounds, including 120,247 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
• Rescues and Recoveries: Thousands freed from captivity and 53.1 million litres of stolen crude oil confiscated.

“These successes reflect the aggressive push by troops across all theatres of operation,” Buba stated, emphasizing that the military’s efforts have made it increasingly difficult for terrorists to operate or threaten citizens.

Chief of Army Staff Calls for Strategic Leadership

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, urged operational commanders to enhance their strategic leadership skills to tackle Nigeria’s evolving security challenges. Speaking at the inauguration of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre’s Leadership and Strategic Studies Course 3/2024 in Abuja, Oluyede stressed the need for officers to adapt to modern security dynamics.

Represented by Maj. Gen. Sani Mohammed, the COAS outlined the course’s comprehensive curriculum, which includes leadership, defense economics, military history, and national security strategy.

“This programme equips officers to meet contemporary security demands,” Oluyede said, calling on participants to fully engage with the training.

Bridging the Gap Between Combatant and Non-Combatant Officers

The Director General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, retired Maj. Gen. Garba Wahab, emphasized the importance of equipping both combatant and non-combatant officers to address Nigeria’s security challenges. “Security threats don’t differentiate between specializations,” Wahab noted, highlighting the course’s role in fostering synergy within the ranks.

The Nigerian Armed Forces remain resolute in their commitment to maintaining national security and intensifying efforts against criminal elements across the country.
