Oborevwori Reveals Salary, Says He Earns Less Than Permanent Secretary
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has disclosed that he receives a monthly salary of ₦503,000, an amount he said is lower than the ₦900,000 earned by Permanent Secretaries in the state.
Oborevwori made the disclosure on Thursday in Asaba during the inauguration of 12 four-bedroom terraced duplexes built for Permanent Secretaries and the presentation of 12 official vehicles to newly appointed Permanent Secretaries.
According to Ireporter Online, the governor explained that the state government recently reviewed the remuneration of Permanent Secretaries after concerns were raised that some directors were earning almost as much as senior civil servants in the position.
He said, “When the Permanent Secretaries said most of the Directors are receiving almost the same thing with them, we increased their money. Today, Permanent Secretaries… Your salary is 900, my salary is 503,000, Governor’s salary. Head of Service is one million.”
The governor also highlighted several measures introduced by his administration to improve the welfare and working conditions of civil servants in the state.
He said the government had provided official vehicles to Permanent Secretaries to improve their mobility and efficiency, while the latest batch of 12 vehicles was presented to newly appointed officials.
Oborevwori disclosed that 302 public officers had benefited from the Public Officers’ Vehicle Loan Scheme, while another 119 had received assistance through the Public Officers’ Housing Loan Scheme.
He added that the state government had also provided farm inputs to civil servants interested in agriculture, with the aim of helping them generate additional income while contributing to food production.
The governor further revealed that 450 senior management staff had received support to participate in a seven-weekend training programme organised in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria.
Speaking on the appointment of Permanent Secretaries, Oborevwori said the 12 officials appointed in May were selected based on merit and ensured that each local government area in Delta State had representation at the level.
He maintained that the recruitment process was conducted transparently and without political recommendations, stressing that the appointees were selected on merit.
