Tinubu Will Beat Kwankwaso In Kano’ – Jibrin
The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will defeat former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Kano during the 2027 presidential election.
According to Ireporter Online, Jibrin made the prediction while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.
Jibrin, who previously worked closely with Kwankwaso but is now a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said his understanding of the former governor’s political structure, strategies and support base would help the APC effectively challenge his influence in Kano.
Asked whether Tinubu could defeat Kwankwaso in the state, Jibrin said, “He will because many of us know the dynamics, his strategies, how he operates, the Kwankwasiyya movement, their strengths, their weaknesses, we are all here and we know how we will be able to deal with that situation.”
Despite his confidence, Jibrin acknowledged that the contest in Kano would be difficult, describing Kwankwaso as a politician who still commands significant support across the state.
“We know him very, very well, we know his strategy, he is still influential, he has supporter base in Kano. Whoever tells you he doesn’t have supporter base is not telling you the truth. So, it’s going to be a tough battle,” he said.
Jibrin, however, argued that Kwankwaso’s position as a running mate to Peter Obi would reduce the impact he could have compared with contesting the presidency directly.
“There is a difference between Kwankwaso being on the ballot as a presidential candidate and being on the ballot as a running mate. There is a sharp difference, there are completely two different things,” he said.
The lawmaker added that Kwankwaso could have presented a stronger challenge in Kano if he were contesting as a presidential candidate rather than a vice-presidential candidate.
Jibrin also reflected on his former political relationship with Kwankwaso, acknowledging the former governor’s role in his political development.
He maintained that despite their current political differences, he would continue to respect Kwankwaso and would not resort to personal attacks against him.
“Of course he gave me a push in politics and I appreciate everything,” Jibrin said, adding that political differences should not erase the respect he has for his former political associate.
