Community Leaders Urge Immediate Intervention From Oborevwori After Young Girls Are Allegedly Trafficked And Killed Overseas

In a statement from Delta State’s community leaders, including Chief David Ogbu and Chief Michael Emeka Onwuchelu, the scale of the trafficking crisis was revealed. On average, 10 girls are trafficked weekly, often manipulated by traffickers working in collusion with local accomplices. Many of these victims face sexual exploitation and brutal abuse, leading to tragic fatalities.

The statement emphasized the urgent need for government action, specifically calling on Governor Oborevwori to provide vital support similar to the rehabilitation programs seen in Benue State. These programs offer rescued victims skill acquisition, rehabilitation, and scholarships to reintegrate them into society.

While local leaders continue to fund rescue missions and provide shelter, the burden is unsustainable without adequate government intervention. The leaders also appealed to the Federal Government to step up its efforts against traffickers and ensure resources are allocated to protect vulnerable children from these horrific crimes.

The statement urges parents to be vigilant and aware of their children’s whereabouts, as child predators are actively targeting young girls.
