The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended three individuals accused of attacking the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Okana, Abua Central, within the Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.

According to the police, the arrests followed a complaint lodged by the victim, Christian Ediegene, at a local police station.

Ediegene, recounting the ordeal in a voice note to journalists, said he encountered the suspects erecting pillars on his farmland. When he questioned their actions, they allegedly set upon him with machetes, inflicting multiple injuries.

“At about 7am on June 29, 2025, as I was heading to my farm, a group of young men ambushed me and cut me on my head, shoulder, and hand with machetes,” Ediegene narrated. “After they fled, I managed to reach the main road despite my condition. Members of my community came to my aid and took me to the police station. I am currently demanding justice. Though I was unconscious for a while, I’m now stable enough to speak.”

Iringe-Koko disclosed that the suspects — identified as Young Ezekiel, Isiah popularly known as Olito, and Onyekachi Paul — have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further interrogation, while efforts are underway to apprehend other fleeing suspects.

“Yes, I can confirm the arrest of three suspects connected to the assault on the CDC Chairman. The matter has been moved to the State CID for discreet investigation,” she stated.
