Political Shift: Ihedioha Exits PDP For ADC In Imo State
According to Ireporter Online, former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Ihedioha completed his registration on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Mbutu Ward in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area, where he was issued the party’s membership card bearing Number 001.
The registration was overseen by the Ward Secretary, Prince Obinna Opara, while the Ward Chairman, Chief Alex Ahamuefula, formally presented the card to Ihedioha. Speaking after the ceremony, the former governor explained that his decision was deliberate, reflecting the ADC’s principles of accountability, clear values, and service to the people.
“Our communities need leadership that listens, serves, and prioritises the common good over personal interest. I am confident the ADC provides a credible platform to achieve these goals,” Ihedioha said. He added that registering at the ward level highlights his commitment to grassroots politics and inclusive governance.
The registration event drew notable party leaders, stakeholders, and community figures, including Evangelist Dr. Obi Nwaigwe, Mayor of Mbutu, and Hon. Jonathan Egbule, Chairman of Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area. National officials of the ADC present included the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-East), Sir Bon Unachukwu; Deputy Diaspora Coordinator, Maigari Bello Kasimu; and Uko Nkole, Coordinator of the Nigerian Former Legislators Forum.
Sir Bon Unachukwu described Ihedioha’s entry as a significant boost for the party’s visibility in the South-East and nationwide. “The ADC is pleased to welcome a former governor whose experience and public service will enhance the party’s appeal,” he said.
The ADC’s Imo State Chairman, Prof. James Okoroma, led the State Executive Committee in receiving Ihedioha and emphasised that his decision strengthens the party’s presence in Imo State, affirming its commitment to internal democracy and grassroots mobilisation.
