Revealing the state of affairs within the refinery, an ex-IPMAN official sheds light on the developments amidst reports heralding its imminent operational revival.
A statement released by Shell underscores the significance of this milestone, attributing its realization to meticulous preparations, collaborative efforts, and the unwavering dedication of the teams at the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal (BOGT) and the Port Harcourt Refinery Company (PHRC).
“This recommencement of crude oil supply from the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal to Port Harcourt Refinery marks a pivotal moment and a game-changer for the industry and the nation,” the statement reads. “The concerted efforts and commitment of both teams have triumphed over challenges, ensuring a safe and efficient resumption of supply operations.”
With the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. fulfilling its promise of achieving mechanical completion of rehabilitation work on Area 5 Plant of the PHRC, optimism soars for the refinery’s rejuvenation. The NNPC Ltd. had embarked on extensive rehabilitation efforts over two years ago, with a pledge to complete Phase One of the project by December 31st, 2023.
During an inspection tour coinciding with the 15th Refineries’ Rehabilitation Steering Committee Meeting, Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., provided insight into the progress made, revealing that substantial milestones have been achieved, with a significant percentage of the rehabilitation project nearing completion.
As the Port Harcourt Refinery gears up to resume operations, the nation eagerly anticipates the positive ripple effects, aligning with the government’s aspirations for a stable supply of petroleum products and bolstered economic benefits.
