Port Harcourt Refinery Resumes Operations: NNPCL Dismisses Claims Of Shutdown
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed that the Port Harcourt Refinery, which has a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day (bpd)…READ MORE…
is operating at full capacity, despite media reports suggesting otherwise. The refinery resumed operations in November 2024 following extensive rehabilitation and is playing a crucial role in boosting domestic supply.
However, The PUNCH previously reported that petrol lifting had temporarily ceased on Friday, December 13, as the new Port Harcourt refinery’s 18-arm loading bay was found to be empty. Observers noted around 18 trucks lined up on the busy road leading to the refinery, while nine trucks were parked within the yard, indicating a lack of loading activity.
NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi O. Soneye, has refuted these claims, asserting that the refinery remains fully operational and that loading operations are continuing as planned.
Soneye stated, “The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has taken notice of media reports alleging that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery, which resumed operations two months ago, has been shut down. We want to clarify that these reports are entirely false; the refinery is fully operational as confirmed by former Group Managing Directors of NNPC just a few days ago. Preparations for the day’s loading operations are currently underway.
