Portable Criticizes Zlatan Popularity, Shares Experience In Police Detention

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, recently made controversial remarks about his fellow artist Zlatan Ibile. According to Portable, a car dealer discouraged him from engaging in a dispute with Zlatan, suggesting that the rapper was attempting to use Portable’s name for publicity. The dealer reportedly claimed that he barely recognized Zlatan’s songs, only recently becoming aware of his name.

Portable remarked, “A lot of wealthy people don’t know some of these artists’ lyrics. What are they singing? Is that music? You cannot do call and response. Are you joking?”

Portable Addresses Perception Issues and Shares Detention Experience

The singer also addressed recent incidents involving his detention, aiming to clarify misconceptions about his mental state. Portable was previously detained and arraigned in court over charges related to conspiracy and the alleged assault of three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Reflecting on his time in custody, Portable shared that upon entering the cell, the leader voluntarily stepped down for him to take charge, an offer he declined, stating, “This is not my house.” He described the harsh conditions within the cell, including the common practice of beating new detainees. However, Portable noted that he was spared such treatment after he “blessed” the inmates in Cell 4.

He further recounted that some cellmates wanted to pray with him, but he refused, expressing skepticism about the effectiveness of collective prayers given their criminal backgrounds. He explained, “One said he had killed one person, another said two, and another three. I haven’t killed anyone, so our prayers cannot work together. Pray on your own.”

Portable emphasized that his encounter with the authorities allowed him to disprove allegations of mental instability, asserting that he presented himself to the authorities as a rational and composed individual.
