This decision was prompted by a motion presented by Hon. Sani Umar, representing the Kontagora I Constituency, who accused AEDC of breaching its obligations under the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC) Act 2023.

Umar criticized AEDC for compelling communities to fund the repair or replacement of damaged infrastructure, such as transformers and high-tension wires. He emphasized that this practice contradicts the NERC Act and places undue financial strain on residents.

Drawing comparisons to telecommunications companies, Umar pointed out that AEDC should ensure the security and maintenance of its infrastructure without relying on community contributions.

In response to Umar’s motion, the House unanimously agreed to summon an AEDC representative to explain the alleged breach of contract and address the electricity challenges plaguing the state.
