Powerful APC Group Threatens To Dump Party, Gives Reason

The Orji Uzor Kalu Grassroots Movement has indicated its intention to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the Presidential Campaign Council barred its principal and former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, from participating in the party’s activities (PCC).

Speaking to journalists at the group’s national headquarters in Abuja, Alhaji Muritala Mohammed alias 10-10 explained that the group, which has over 3.8 million registered members nationwide, is unhappy with the PCC’s neglect of the Senate chief whip and is considering leaving the party.

According to him, the group was formed to promote Senator Kalu as a detribalised leader in Nigeria with the capacity and experience to serve at all levels.

Mohammed described Kalu as a detribalised leader who, as governor of Abia State, appointed a northerner to his cabinet, built a massive Mosque for the Muslim community in Abia State, and prevented a retaliatory attack against northerners in Aba and Umuahia during the Kano crisis.

He stated that the group has already endorsed the APC’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, but that the endorsement is likely to be withdrawn if the PCC does not recognize the senate chief whip and include him in campaign activities.

He added, “Our principal is a former governor and a sitting top-ranking senator with millions of followers nationwide so why should the PCC ignore him and not engage him in the campaign activities by the party he has contributed in nurturing? He should be included in the campaign by the PCC otherwise we are going to exit from APC.”
