The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has stated that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, cannot defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Umahi made the assertion during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he claimed that Obi does not command enough political influence to pose a challenge to Tinubu’s re-election ambition.

According to the minister, nobody is intimidated by Obi’s political movement, describing his style of politics as “Artificial Intelligence (AI) politics.”

Umahi further boasted that he could defeat the former Anambra State governor in an election contest, arguing that Obi would face a tougher challenge against President Tinubu.

He also criticised Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, alleging that his administration failed in key areas, including healthcare, infrastructure development, and other sectors.

“Peter Obi is playing AI politics. Nobody is scared of him,” Umahi said, while accusing the former governor of prioritising investments in banks while allegedly owing contractors.

The minister also claimed that Obi’s approach to governance during his tenure in Anambra did not meet expectations, adding that his performance in office would have warranted resignation.

In a related development, Umahi recently accused Obi of repeatedly attacking his personality and integrity.

Speaking during the launch of the Akwanga-Jos superhighway construction project, the minister alleged that Obi lacked a proper understanding of governance and criticised his habit of highlighting poor road conditions on social media.

Umahi accused the former governor of using such actions to gain political attention and subsequently challenged him to a public debate on governance issues.
