Presidency Clarifies: Wale Edun And Dangiwa Were Not Sacked
According to IReporter Online, the Presidency has clarified that the recent exit of former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, was not due to dismissal but the result of voluntary resignations.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed in a statement that Wale Edun formally tendered his resignation on his 70th birthday, citing health-related reasons. He was said to have expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve under his administration, noting that Nigeria had become “stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected” under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Onanuga further revealed that prior to the public announcement of his exit, Edun paid a valedictory visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he held discussions before stepping away to focus on personal engagements.
Similarly, Ahmed Dangiwa was said to have also voluntarily resigned, appreciating the President for the privilege of serving in the Federal Executive Council. Dangiwa, an architect and former Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, was appointed Housing Minister in August 2023 after previously serving as Secretary to the Katsina State Government.
The Presidency highlighted Edun’s extensive background in finance and investment banking, including his past roles as Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, World Bank economist, and founder of Chapelhill Denham Group. It also noted that President Tinubu has expressed deep appreciation to both former ministers for their contributions to ongoing economic reforms and wished them success in their future endeavours.
In the same development, the President has reportedly approved Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance, while a ministerial nominee for the housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, is expected to be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
