Reps Denounce-Exaggeration Of NASS Members’ Salaries As Propaganda (Details)
The House of Representatives has denounced the narrative regarding the remuneration of National Assembly members propagated by Organised Labour, calling it false and misleading.
In a statement, the House’s spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, accused Organised Labour of contributing to these misconceptions for years. He claimed that Labour leaders have exaggerated figures to incite public resentment and undermine the credibility of the legislature, diverting attention from core issues and unfairly vilifying the parliament.
Rotimi stated, “It is important to address persistent misinformation and disinformation propagated by Organised Labour Leadership regarding the earnings of lawmakers. Organised Labour has, for years, contributed to false narratives about the remuneration of Members of the National Assembly, exaggerating figures to stoke public resentment and undermine the credibility of the Legislature. This tactic diverts attention from the core issues at stake and unfairly vilifies the institution of parliament.”
He emphasized the need for honest and transparent dialogue, urging all parties to avoid spreading inaccuracies for political leverage. He assured that the Legislature is aligned with the interests of Nigerians and will continue to act in the best interest of their constituents.
“The 10th House of Representatives is committed to strengthening relevant legislation to ensure that essential services remain operational during future industrial actions, thereby protecting the lives and well-being of all Nigerians,” Rotimi added. He called on the Leadership of Organised Labour to return to the negotiation table and engage other stakeholders in good faith to achieve a balanced and sustainable outcome.
The spokesperson reaffirmed the lawmakers’ commitment to the well-being of Nigerian workers and the country’s overall development.
