Rescue Operation: Police Take Down Kidnappers, Free Retired AIG Wife In Ogun

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi revealed the details of the operation, adding that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the efforts of the Ogun State Police Command and Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo for their swift and effective action.

Adejobi reaffirmed the police’s dedication to safeguarding Nigerian citizens, stating, “We are committed to the safety and security of our people.”

Mrs. Odumosu had been abducted last week at the entrance of her residence in Arepo, Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, with her kidnappers demanding a ₦40 million ransom. The assailants intercepted her Lexus SUV and took her to an unknown location through a swampy area.

Details regarding the precise location of Mrs. Odumosu’s rescue and the amount of ransom recovered were not disclosed.

Kidnapping remains a critical challenge in Nigeria, with a National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report revealing that ₦2.2 trillion was paid in ransom between May 2023 and April 2024, with over 2 million people reportedly abducted during this period.
