Rhodes-Vivour Reacts, Seeks Time Over Call To Join Peter Obi In NDC

According to Ireporter Online, former Lagos State governorship candidate under the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has appealed to supporters of the Obidient movement to exercise patience over his political direction following mounting criticism of his decision to remain in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid calls for opposition realignment.

Rhodes-Vivour made the appeal in a post on on Friday, reacting to concerns from supporters who questioned his refusal to align with the Nigeria Democratic Congress alongside former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and other opposition figures.

Responding to an emotional message from an Obidient supporter identified as @firstladyship, he expressed appreciation for the continued loyalty of the movement while acknowledging the frustrations surrounding ongoing political developments.

He stated that he deeply values the support of the Obidients and would never take their loyalty for granted, stressing that their role in the 2023 general elections remains significant in Nigeria’s political history.

Rhodes-Vivour further urged his supporters to remain calm, noting that while he understands their concerns, he requires time to fully explain his political decisions and current positioning.

Drawing a comparison with his past political transition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party before the 2023 elections, he referenced earlier criticism he faced, insisting that time ultimately validated his choices.

He also assured supporters that his relationship with the Obidient movement remains intact, expressing confidence that they would be even more united ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his words, he appealed for patience until the end of the month, adding that by 2027, the bond between him and the movement would be stronger than it was in 2023.

The development followed a lengthy response from a supporter who cautioned that Rhodes-Vivour’s continued stay in the ADC could affect his political prospects in Lagos State, arguing that the party lacks the structure to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The supporter further suggested that if former Lagos governorship candidate Funso Doherty secures the Nigeria Democratic Congress ticket, Obidient supporters might rally behind him instead.

Meanwhile, Rhodes-Vivour had earlier reaffirmed his commitment to the ADC, describing it as the platform built over time and capable of delivering electoral victory, despite the ongoing political shifts within the opposition.
