Ribadu Convenes Emergency Security Meeting Over Trump’s Threat To Strike Nigeria
According to Ireporter Online, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, on Monday convened a crucial meeting with service chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies following remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened possible military action against Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
The high-level meeting, which was held at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Abuja, reportedly lasted several hours and focused on the national security, diplomatic, and strategic consequences of the U.S. president’s statements.
Insiders familiar with the discussions revealed that Ribadu called the meeting to ensure a coordinated national response and to harmonize intelligence assessments across Nigeria’s defence and security establishments. Deliberations were said to have covered possible diplomatic engagement with Washington and increased intelligence cooperation with international allies to ease growing tensions.
President Trump had earlier accused the Nigerian government of neglecting to safeguard Christians from militant attacks, threatening on his Truth Social platform to take military action if the situation continued. He alleged that “record numbers of Christians” were being killed in the country and warned that the United States might “go in guns blazing” should Abuja fail to act decisively.
The American leader reportedly reiterated this stance on Sunday night while speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One, hinting that any U.S. intervention could involve “ground troops or air strikes.”
