Rivers Assembly Shakes Things Up With Confirmation Of Four Top Commissioners!

The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, has officially approved four new commissioner nominees to join the Rivers State Executive Council. The nominees—Dr. Israel Lebura Ngbuelu, Evans Bapakaye Bipi, Barrister Otamiri Ngubo, and Barrister Benebo Anabraba—were screened and confirmed following a request from Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

During the discussion prior to the confirmation, House Leader Sokari Goodboy Sokari pointed out that three of the nominees are former members of the House and thus did not need further questioning. He noted that the fourth nominee had recently been screened while serving as a caretaker committee chairman. Sokari encouraged the Assembly to endorse the nominees, a view that was supported by Deputy Speaker Timothy Orubienimigha.

After the deliberation, Speaker Oko-Jumbo called for a voice vote, which resulted in the unanimous approval of the nominees.

In his remarks, Oko-Jumbo commended the nominees for their impressive records, highlighting that three of them have served in the Rivers State House of Assembly for at least eight years, while the fourth has valuable experience as a caretaker committee chairman. The Speaker emphasized that their confirmation represents a call to further service and urged the new commissioners to continue their dedication to the state and maintain unwavering loyalty to the State Government.

As part of a longstanding tradition, the three former members of the House were invited to take a bow and exit the chambers, honoring their prior contributions and reflecting the respect given to seasoned lawmakers.
