Rivers Crisis: APC Chieftain Says Fubara “Does Not Listen”, Advises on Ending Political Tension
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has advised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on how to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state………..READ MORE
Akindele made his remarks after Fubara accused the state House of Assembly of obstructing his efforts to implement a Supreme Court judgment. However, the lawmakers denied his claims.
In a post on Facebook, Akindele urged the governor to fully comply with the Supreme Court ruling by:
- Sacking his commissioners
- Cancelling preparations for local government elections
- Resolving differences with the House of Assembly before presenting a new budget
“Fubara no dey hear word. This Rivers matter is very simple. Obey the Supreme Court judgment fully. Sack those illegal commissioners, cancel LG election preparations until you and HoA settle your differences like men. Then agree on a date to represent your budget. THAT’S ALL,” Akindele wrote.
Meanwhile, tension in Rivers State has escalated following the initiation of impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, by the state House of Assembly.
The impeachment process, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, who is loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, accuses Fubara and his deputy of gross misconduct.
This move has sparked reactions from Ijaw groups, warning of potential unrest if the impeachment proceeds.
