Izuma David Odiereke, who had been on the police’s wanted list for almost a decade, met his demise during a shootout in the Owube Kingdom of Ahoada West LGA on Monday, March 25, 2024.
Addressing the media at the Area Command, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, described the deceased cult commander as a serial killer responsible for numerous deaths in the region. Disu detailed how the police raided Odiereke’s camp in the Api Forest, leading to a confrontation where he attempted to flee but was ultimately subdued by superior firepower.
Disu expressed relief over Odiereke’s demise, emphasizing the end of his reign of terror, which had caused immense fear and suffering in the community. He credited the dedicated efforts of the police force in finally bringing the notorious cult leader to justice.
The slain cult kingpin was implicated in several high-profile murders, including that of the paramount ruler of the area earlier in the year, along with approximately nine other notable figures.
