Sam Amadi: INEC Failure-Led To Supreme Court’s Determination Of Election (Details)

Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), attributing the outcome of the 2023 presidential election to the Supreme Court’s intervention.

Speaking at an event organized by the Labour Party to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day, Amadi urged Nigerians and the National Assembly to investigate INEC’s expenditures during the general elections. He specifically highlighted the failure of INEC’s server during the presidential election and called for accountability regarding the funds allocated for the electoral process.

Amadi emphasized the need for INEC to explain why electronic collation and declaration of results, as stipulated in the amended INEC Electoral Act, were not implemented. He expressed concern over the potential for election rigging facilitated by the presidency’s appointment of the INEC chairman.

“The ongoing electoral reform must address the inconsistency of presidential appointment of the INEC chairman, which undermines the integrity of the electoral process,” Amadi emphasized.

His remarks underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in electoral governance, urging comprehensive scrutiny of INEC’s operations and expenditures to uphold democratic principles in Nigeria.
