Scandal In Edo: Examination Papers Found Wrapping Roasted Corn And Suya on Benin Streets (Video)Benin City, June 13, 2024 — In a shocking turn of events, examination papers intended for the
Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Edo State have been discovered being used to wrap roasted corn, akara, and suya by street vendors in Benin City. This scandalous revelation has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about the integrity of the Edo State Ministry of Education and the EDOBEST initiative championed by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
According to a press statement released by the Edo APC New Media Campaign Council, these examination papers, scheduled for use tomorrow in subjects including Cultural and Creative Arts, were found on the streets, wrapping food items. The council describes this incident as a clear indicator of rampant examination malpractice and a severe breach of educational protocol.
Governor Obaseki has frequently praised the EDOBEST initiative, touting it as a transformative reform in the state’s education sector. However, the recent discovery paints a different picture, suggesting that the initiative may be more about appearances than substantive improvements. The Edo State Ministry of Education has allegedly been distributing these examination papers to public school teachers ahead of the BECE, allowing them to coach students and artificially inflate pass rates.
The Edo APC New Media Campaign Council condemns this act as a blatant disregard for educational integrity and calls for immediate action. “Edo people, where is the accountability? Where is the credibility?” the council’s statement reads. They highlight that the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has spent millions of naira on EDOBEST, yet the result is widespread examination malpractice.
The council further accuses the current administration of prioritizing profit over the future of Edo’s youth. “This egregious act of using examination papers to wrap street food not only undermines the credibility of our education system but also insults the hard work and aspirations of Edo’s students and parents,” the statement continues.
The Edo APC New Media Campaign Council demands the immediate resignation of those responsible and a thorough investigation into this malpractice. They urge all Edo people to demand better from their leaders, emphasizing that the future of the state’s children is at stake.
