Benedicta Daudu, the dean of the Faculty of Law at Taraba State University, was included in the shortlist of 68 other lawyers for the SAN award by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Daudu had previously faced suspension for academic misconduct during her tenure at the University of Jos. She was caught “cheating” in a postgraduate course examination and later resigned from her position at the university. Despite this history, she has since become a professor at Taraba State University.

Daudu may face further scrutiny during the selection process for the SAN rank, with an opportunity for the public to raise concerns about her suitability. The interview stage is scheduled for October. Among the shortlisted candidates are notable lawyers such as Fumi Falana and Kayode Ajulo, both human rights advocates. Twelve academics, including Daudu, are included in the list.
