See Where Wike Was Spotted On Friday Days After Presidential Election

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike joined his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, on Friday to commission the Oyo State 5,000,000-litre Aviation Fuel Dispensing Depot at the Ibadan Airport in the state’s Alakia area.

The depot is expected to make Jet-A1 readily available to local airlines flying out of the airport in South-West Nigeria and connecting to other domestic routes in the country.

Wike and Makinde are members of the G5, or the ‘Integrity Group,’ which is made up of disgruntled Peoples Democratic Party governors (PDP).

The G5 is made up of five PDP governors — Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Nyesom Wike (Rivers).

After the party’s presidential primary in May 2022, the five governors formed an alliance to demand that the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, step down for a southern replacement as a condition for supporting the party’s flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, in the February 25 election. In the recently concluded elections, both Atiku and Ayu called the governors’ bluff and refused to cave to their demands.

In the presidential election, Atiku lost in all five G5 states, while Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi won Enugu and Abia, and All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu won Oyo, Benue, and Rivers.

Of the G5, Ortom, Ikpeazu, Ugwuanyi, and Wike are all two-term governors, while Makinde is a one-term governor who is running for re-election on March 11, 2023 and hopes to stay in office for another four years.

Interestingly, Ortom, Ikpeazu, and Ugwuanyi attempted to cross over to the Senate, which has been described as a “retirement home” for former governors, but they were defeated in the presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25.

With three of his comrades defeated, all eyes will be on Makinde on March 11. Will he make it through and break the G5’s losing streak? The only way to know is to wait and see.
