Reports had circulated regarding a letter titled ‘REQUEST FOR YOUR PROMPT INTERVENTION OF JUSTICE,’ allegedly attributed to Sheikh Usman-Bauchi and addressed to the CJN. However, the religious leader firmly denied any association with the letter, asserting that it contradicted his principles regarding political involvement in judicial matters.

In a statement to Vanguard, Sheikh Usman-Bauchi reiterated his stance, stating, “It is not in my character to speak on political matters pending in court. I don’t know about the letter and it did not emanate from me.” Bashir Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, one of the Sheikh’s sons, echoed this sentiment, clarifying that the letterhead used in the purported correspondence was not authentic and did not align with his father’s official stationery.

The family urged the public to disregard the letter and its purported contents, highlighting the necessity of clarifying their position after the document circulated widely. The incident occurred amidst the Supreme Court’s deliberations on the legal dispute over the Kano governorship election between Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with a judgment yet to be delivered.
