Cubana Chief Priest faces a three-count charge for purportedly spraying and mishandling Naira notes during a social event, contravening provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007. According to the charge filed on April 4 by Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), the EFCC’s prosecutor, and seven other legal representatives of the Commission’s executive chairman, the alleged incidents occurred on multiple occasions.
In count one, Cubana Chief Priest is accused of tampering with N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them for two hours at Eko Hotel on February 13, 2024. Similar allegations are made in counts two and three, relating to events in 2020 and January 2024, respectively, also involving the misuse of Naira notes during social gatherings.
The EFCC’s move against Cubana Chief Priest follows a recent conviction secured against another public figure, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, on similar charges. Bobrisky was sentenced to six months imprisonment on April 5 for offenses related to the misuse of the Naira.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the case against Cubana Chief Priest underscores the EFCC’s commitment to enforcing financial regulations and upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s currency.
