the controversial tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly. This announcement was made in a statement by the league’s spokesperson, Ladan Salihu, on Friday in Abuja.

The committee was formed in response to the significant backlash following the introduction of the bills, including the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2024, and the Nigeria Tax Bill, 2024, among others.

The committee is expected to complete its review within one week and will present its findings and recommendations to the LND for consideration.

The tax reform bills, introduced by President Bola Tinubu in October, have ignited heated discussions throughout the country. Critics argue that these proposed laws could disproportionately impact certain regions, especially the North, leading to calls for revisions or complete withdrawal.

Recently, northern lawmakers, governors, and various stakeholders have voiced their concerns regarding the bills, citing potential economic difficulties.

According to the statement, “Upon completing its review, the committee will publicly share its findings in both electronic and tabular formats to effectively communicate its recommendations to policymakers, legislators, the media, and the Nigerian public.

“The LND expresses confidence in the committee’s capability to deliver comprehensive and well-considered recommendations that will enhance benefits for all Nigerians, ensuring the tax reforms promote sustainable development and equitable economic growth nationwide.
