Shekarau Blasts Political Parties: ‘We Will Choose The Best From The Evil Pool’ In 2027
Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has thrown down the gauntlet to Nigerian political parties ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, urging them to field the best candidates for the top job. In a fiery statement, Shekarau declared that the focus should not be on which zone will produce the next president,
but rather on the caliber of the candidates presented to Nigerians.
Refusing to be boxed into the debate over whether power should shift to the South or remain in the North, Shekarau made it clear that Nigerians would simply have to choose the “least evil” among the candidates put forward by the political parties.
“We are not concerned about which region produces the president, but about the candidates. If all the parties offer us poor choices, then Nigerians will have to choose the best from the evils,” he said during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
Shekarau’s comments come on the heels of the recent #EndBadGovernance protests that rocked the nation. He insisted that the protests were not regional, but rather a powerful national message to President Bola Tinubu and the federal government. “The message is clear—Nigerians are calling for a rethink of what is being offered by those in power,” he stated.
Shekarau’s scathing remarks point to a growing dissatisfaction with Nigeria’s leadership, with citizens demanding a change in direction. The protests, he said, should serve as a wake-up call to the government, signaling the urgent need for reevaluation and reform.
