The price of rice has surged dramatically, with a 50kg bag now selling for around ₦75,000 in Lagos and up to ₦99,000 in Abuja. Factors such as currency devaluation, subsidy removal, and production disruptions caused by flooding and insecurity have contributed to this steep rise.

Beans, a critical protein source for many Nigerian households, have also become more expensive. Prices vary across regions, but the overall trend points to an increase due to higher transportation costs and supply chain disruptions. Inflation and naira depreciation have further exacerbated the situation.

Tomato prices have been highly unstable due to seasonal supply fluctuations, transportation difficulties, and post-harvest losses. Consumers, particularly in urban areas, report paying significantly more for the commodity as demand remains high.

Several factors have contributed to the soaring cost of food in Nigeria:
