Simi Urges Fans: Stop Calling My Daughter ‘Duduke’
Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has asked the public to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke.”
The nickname, widely adopted after Simi’s 2020 hit single “Duduke”—released in anticipation of her child’s birth—was simply an onomatopoeia symbolizing her heartbeat, not a name with actual meaning.
In a conversation with VJ Adams, Simi explained that while she knows the term comes from a place of affection, she’s not fond of people calling her daughter by it.
“It doesn’t even mean anything. It’s just a beat—‘duduke duduke’—that’s what I meant,” she said.
“Stop calling my child Duduke [laughs]. But I get it. It’s coming from a good place.”
Simi added that if the word had a positive or real meaning, she might have embraced it, but she prefers people to use her daughter’s actual name.
