Nollywood actress Imade Osawaru has voiced concern over the increasing emphasis on social media popularity in the film industry, cautioning that the trend is undermining genuine creativity.

“The biggest challenge today is that follower count seems to outweigh real talent,” Osawaru stated. “It’s disheartening when years of training, experience, and hard work are overlooked simply because someone doesn’t have millions of followers. Social media should serve as a tool, not a benchmark for creativity. Unfortunately, this mindset is stifling originality, as many young actors prioritize clout over mastering their craft.”

Known for her compelling character performances, Osawaru also disputed actor Jim Iyke’s assertion that single mothers are incapable of raising proper men. She argued that the measure of a man lies in the values instilled, not the family structure.

“Good men are shaped by the principles they grow up with, not by the number of parents in a household. I have witnessed single mothers nurture leaders, innovators, and visionaries. To suggest otherwise dismisses the resilience and dedication of countless women fulfilling dual roles. True character comes from love, not a so-called ‘perfect’ family,” she explained.

Speaking on romance, Osawaru noted that expressions of love in Nigeria often lean toward practicality rather than theatrics. “Nigerian men can be romantic, but it tends to be practical—less about candlelit dinners, more about showing up and being present when it counts,” she said.
