Sorrow In Oyo: Bishop Emeritus Julius Adelakun Passes On At 91

According to Ireporter Online, the Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, Most Reverend Julius Adelakun, has passed away at the age of 91. His death was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the current Bishop of Oyo Diocese, Most Reverend Emmanuel Badejo.

Bishop Badejo revealed that the revered cleric died on Friday, describing him as a man who lived a “full and impactful life,” whose service to God and humanity inspired many. He urged members of the Catholic community to continue praying for the peaceful repose of the late Bishop’s soul, noting that details of his funeral arrangements would be released soon.

Bishop Julius Adelakun served as the Bishop of Oyo for 36 years, from April 13, 1973, until his retirement on November 4, 2009. Born on November 4, 1934, he was ordained a priest on June 27, 1965, and became a bishop on February 11, 1973.

Bishop Badejo further praised his predecessor for his decades of unwavering commitment and pastoral leadership, describing him as “a true shepherd who guided the flock of Oyo with faith, wisdom, and humility.”
