South-South APC Endorses Tinubu, Four Governors for 2027 Elections
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s South-South region have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027. They also backed the re-election bids of four APC governors in the zone.
This endorsement came at a strategic meeting held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Benin City, Edo State. Reading a communique after the meeting, the APC Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, praised President Tinubu’s leadership, citing his impactful reforms and notable support for the South-South.
Giadom highlighted Tinubu’s contributions to the region, such as facilitating the emergence of a Senate President from the South-South and driving landmark projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.
“We commend President Tinubu for his uncommon love and support for our region, reflected in the appointment of a Senate President from here and the execution of massive projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road,” the statement noted.
The gathering also passed a vote of confidence on Senate President Godswill Akpabio, commending his efforts in uniting the zone and promoting Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We unanimously applaud Akpabio for his leadership qualities and role in consolidating support for the President’s agenda,” the statement added.
The stakeholders welcomed recent political realignments in the region, especially Delta and Akwa Ibom States’ decision to fully embrace the APC and Tinubu’s policies. They urged the remaining non-APC governors in Bayelsa and Rivers States to also join the party.
Turning to state politics, the South-South APC leaders endorsed the sitting governors of Edo, Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom for re-election in 2027, citing their commendable governance records.
“We pass a vote of confidence on the governors of Edo, Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States for their impressive performance, and endorse them as sole candidates for 2027,” the communique read.
Additionally, they lauded the loyalty of South-South APC senators, House of Representatives members, federal ministers, agency heads, and other appointees for rallying behind Tinubu’s administration.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution adopting President Tinubu as the South-South’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election, alongside the four APC governors as sole candidates in their states.
“This is the collective decision of the APC South-South zone — to back President Tinubu and ensure our governors are re-elected to sustain good governance,” the statement declared.
Prominent figures at the event included Senate President Akpabio; Governors Monday Okpebholo (Edo) and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom); ex-Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva; Senator Adams Oshiomhole; Minister of Regional Development, Hon. Abubakar Momoh; Acting APC National Chairman, Alhaji Ali Bukar Dalori; and various state party chairmen.
