program between Tsinghua University, China, and the University of Abuja themed “Civilizational Exchange and Mutual Learning between China and Nigeria,” Ambassador Dunhai expressed concerns over the security challenges in West Africa and called for mutual respect, peace, and equality among nations.
“Civilizations are equal; no nation’s culture or governance is superior. Each society evolves from its unique conditions, just as the United States’ civilization developed from its national reality,” the envoy stated.
Highlighting the importance of strengthening ties between China and Nigeria, he emphasized that bilateral relations should go beyond government interactions, focusing on people-to-people exchanges to foster understanding and collaboration.
Ambassador Dunhai praised Nigeria’s potential, citing its rich resources, diverse culture, and strong development prospects, and noted the shared values between the two nations, including peace, diversity, and a shared history of fighting for independence.
“Both Nigeria and China have multi-ethnic cultures and histories of resilience. Our nations cherish diversity, which forms the foundation for unity. Respect for this diversity is crucial for harmonious coexistence,” he added.
He also reflected on China’s peaceful diplomatic approaches, recounting the resolution of long-standing border disputes over the past 70 years as a testament to its non-aggressive principles.
The program further underscored the importance of cultural exchange initiatives, such as the joint establishment of cultural centers, hosting of events like the China-Nigeria Cultural Week, and the integration of art and education to strengthen ties between the two nations.
Ambassador Dunhai concluded by reiterating that mutual respect and shared learning are pivotal in addressing global challenges, fostering peace, and ensuring a prosperous future for all.
