Committee on Diaspora to defend NIDCOM’s 2025 budget, Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the significant contributions of the diaspora community to Nigeria’s economy.

Highlighting the December 2024 inflow of approximately N60 billion from diaspora spending during holiday visits, she noted, “These remittances are a testament to the growing economic impact of Nigerians abroad.”

Dabiri-Erewa proposed a Diaspora Plaza to connect Nigerians abroad with government and investment opportunities, underscoring the role of diaspora engagement in nation-building.

Senator Victor Umeh, co-chair of the committee, called for increased funding for NIDCOM to enhance its operations and urged the government to prioritize diaspora relations.

He also raised concerns about diaspora voting, stressing the need for reliable systems and data to avoid potential challenges.

The diaspora’s contributions are seen as a key pillar in Nigeria’s economic resurgence and global image transformation.
