Stability At The Forefront Of President Tinubu’s Agenda, Says Tahir Mamman
Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman has said President Bola Tinubu wants stability in the education sector and not destruction.
Tahir Mamman said this on Friday while speaking to newsmen after a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Students.
Mamman’s consultation with the student body was in line with activities of the federal government to engage stakeholders against the planned hunger protest slated for August 1.
“The president had made it very clear to everybody and to us in the ministry that he wants stability in the education system. he does not want and strike and destruction in the education sector which has been the pain of our education system over the years, and for that he has done everything possible to ensure that the needs of the system are met,” Mamman said.
He disclosed that the meeting between NANS and the Ministry of Education would be held periodically to serve as an avenue for interaction between the government and students.
On his part, NANS President, Lucky Emonefe, said the students’ body will not take part in the hunger protest. He said Nigerian students have resolved to be law abiding and not to cause chaos. He added that the body would be a party to the protesters.
Emonefe said, “We want to use this opportunity to state as students we have resolved to be law-abiding, not to cause chaos in our society and not to join those who want to cause chaos in our society.”
NANS President called on the Minister of Education to advise the President to pay more attention to students’ welfare.
“We want to through the Minister of Education tell President Tinubu to put more attention to the students constituency,” he added.
