President Tinubu Hails “Very Successful” China Visit, Pledges To Bring World-Class Infrastructure To Nigeria

Beijing, September 6, 2024 – In a significant address at the China World Hotel, President Bola Tinubu declared his recent trip to China a resounding success and pledged to transform Nigeria’s infrastructure to match the high standards observed in the Asian giant.

During a meeting with Nigerians residing in China, the President reflected on his fruitful discussions with Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, and his participation in the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). Tinubu’s trip focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as infrastructure, trade, finance, energy, and green economy.

“This visit has been very good and successful,” President Tinubu proclaimed. “I urge you all to continue representing Nigeria with pride and be excellent ambassadors in your respective communities here in China.”

The President emphasized that Nigeria is poised to learn from China’s disciplined society, urging Nigerians to adopt similar levels of commitment and integrity. “Discipline and commitment are essential for building a nation that commands global respect,” Tinubu stated, highlighting China’s steady progress as a model for Nigeria.

Tinubu acknowledged the ongoing economic reforms in Nigeria, including recent controversial decisions such as fuel price adjustments. He reassured the diaspora that these tough choices are necessary to pave the way for substantial improvements in infrastructure and public services.

“We are committed to replicating the quality infrastructure you see here,” Tinubu said, referencing China’s reliable electricity, clean water, and modern educational facilities. “We want our children to learn in top-tier schools, not in dilapidated buildings. We aim to build a nation that is deserving of its talent and potential.”

In response to requests from the Nigerian community in China, Dr. Oche Barnabas, President of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) China, praised President Tinubu’s efforts to enhance Nigeria-China relations and expressed support for Nigeria’s 4Ds initiative—an ambitious plan aimed at driving development through diplomacy, defense, development, and democracy.

Barnabas also called for Nigeria to be officially recognized as a native English-speaking nation in China, which would potentially unlock significant job and educational opportunities for Nigerians. “We believe this recognition will open doors for more Nigerians to study and work here, boosting our remittances and reinforcing our global presence,” he explained.

President Tinubu assured the community of his commitment to addressing these concerns and leveraging the strategic insights gained from his visit to foster development back home. He emphasized that while achieving national consensus on various issues may be challenging, his administration is resolute in its mission to propel Nigeria forward.

“Our goal is to make impactful changes that reflect our aspirations and capabilities,” Tinubu concluded. “We have a focused team, and together, we will build a Nigeria that is respected and admired worldwide.”
