Senator George Akume. He emphasized the importance of addressing this allegation, stating that troublemakers, allegedly backed by SGF proxies, are attempting to blackmail him and divert attention from the remarkable developments his administration is achieving in the state.

In a statement released on Sunday by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alia made it clear that the group advocating for the AGF’s dismissal does not represent his political views.

The statement read: “These individuals based their unfounded claims on a communiqué from a group of appointees of Governor Hyacinth Alia. However, it is essential to clarify the context regarding the call for the SGF’s removal. While the communiqué reflects the concerns of those appointees, it is critical to stress that they do not officially represent the Governor’s position.”

The statement further noted that the group comprises individuals entitled to express their opinions independently. “They did not assert they were speaking on behalf of Governor Alia, nor did they imply that their call for action was authorized by him.”

The Governor has consistently maintained a professional demeanor and has refrained from publicly accusing the SGF, even amidst ongoing provocations from Akume’s political associates, including his wife, a member of the House of Representatives.

“If Governor Alia wished to call for Akume’s removal, he knows precisely how to proceed, just as he did when expressing his preferences and recommendations prior to Akume’s appointment as SGF,” the statement said.

While acknowledging the unfortunate ridicule and attacks from Akume’s circle, the Governor has opted for restraint over retaliation.

“The suggestion that Governor Alia orchestrated the call for the SGF’s removal is misleading and serves only to distract from the critical issues at hand. The Governor remains committed to delivering the benefits of democracy to the people of Benue State and will not be influenced by unfounded allegations or blackmail attempts.

“Governor Alia has brought a positive approach to governance, and Benue has faced neglect for too long to jeopardize this opportunity. It is essential to rise above divisive ideological games and focus on the betterment of our state.

“Let it be clear: the Reverend gentleman is not in the Government House for trivial matters. He is fully dedicated to his mandate and will continue to prioritize the interests of Benue State over personal or political grievances.

“It’s time to put an end to these unholy attempts to undermine his leadership through baseless accusations. The focus should remain on governance and advancing the progress of our great state
